DALEKS:  The Small Defender

Written by David Whittaker and Terry Nation

First Published in The Dalek Book 1964

Main Characters:  The Daleks

Summary:

A mole, investigating the arrival of a small party of daleks, tunnels his way under their devices.  As its tunnels pass under a device for spraying liquid metal, the ground gives way and the party of daleks are coated with the fast drying liquid, putting a halt to this particular invasion preparation.

Length:

Three pages, about two of which are text.

Illustrations:

Apart from a picture of a dalek on the first page, the only illustration is of the mole watching the daleks get coated in the liquid metal.

Fitting In:

It’s clearly part of the main dalek story as Jeff Stone puts in an appearance at the very end.

Continuity:

Large dalek ships need proper metal landing strips, smaller ones can land anywhere.  The sheets of metal used for the dalek roadways are six feet long by four feet wide.

Locations:

Earth, somewhere in Kent.

Comments:

A “cute” diversion from the main story that’s nothing more than a light hearted piece of fluff to once more make the daleks look easily defeatable.
